When did you first start CrossFitting? April 2015
When did you first start training at UPCF? April 2015
What's your favorite workout? Anything involving sit-ups. They are my strong suit!
What's your least favorite workout? Anything involving toes-to-bar. I still need to gain some strength in my hands.
Tell us about your sports and fitness background: I did not do sports at all in high school. I did the circuit gym at Curves for many years and then got into yoga and swim aerobics.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? I knew the coaches before Underwood Park CrossFit opened. Lauren asked me to come to a CrossFit class to try it out. At the same time I was trying to fit into a wedding dress and Underwood Park CrossFit was starting their first bootcamp. I thought "hey- maybe I try this class and see if I want to do the bootcamp."
Take us back to your first workout... what was it and how did you feel? After the first class I felt like I might die. It was burpees, pushups, and box jumps. Everything was modified for me, but it was tough! But at the same time my body was hurting, I felt great! This was a huge accomplishment and the intimidation of doing CrossFit was gone. I got hooked!
What sorts of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? I am a LOT stronger! I am fitter for sure, and I have a lot more endurance. I sleep better after a work-out.
What sorts of changes have you experienced in your life after starting CrossFit that were unexpected? I find myself wanting to eat better in order to perform better at CrossFit. It's true that they go hand in hand - nutrition and fitness!
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit or Underwood Park CrossFit moments! I came in on a Saturday and was faced with the workout "The Filthy Fifty." Holy smokes! I scaled back a little and did forty of everything instead. It was the longest CrossFit workout I've ever done, and by the end I felt so great! It was intense, but what a rush to have completed the whole 400 reps of exercise at the end. And I had so much encouragement and teamwork along the way. It was definitely a workout to remember.
Any advice for people just getting started? Just do it! Don't be scared, just go. Once you do and see how wonderful a community it is and supportive everyone is - you'll be hooked.
What are your hobbies, interests, and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I am active in a couple musical groups locally. I play the clarinet and sing. I enjoy spending time with my husband and dog hiking, biking, swimming, and being outdoors. We are also pretty awesome mini golf players!
Thank you, Janet!
